Baguettes
Wrap whole baguettes in foil, heat, and serve warm with olive oil.
This classic French loaf is a light yeast bread made with water instead of milk, then
formed into a long, narrow, cylindrical loaf. Brushing the loaf with water during the baking
process creates the characteristic crisp, golden-brown crust.
Varieties
Baguettes are available in whole-wheat or traditional white versions. Demi-baguettes and
ficelle are smaller versions of the classic long bread.
Buying and storing tips
Buy baguettes in the bakery section of most natural food and grocery stores. Choose the whole-grain variety whenever possible. Store in a paper or
plastic bag at room temperature, and use within a day.
Availability
Baguettes are available year-round.
